August 7-Sept 6
For this years’ Members Exhibit, a design challenge was issued to our members. Each member was to use a 12” x 12” substrate for their pieces. For some this meant scaling up, working within confines.for others who work three dimensionally, a switch to exploring wall oriented pieces. Within the uniformity, individuals are clearly heard and admired for their unique voices.
The Mosaic Society of Philadelphia enthusiastically promotes mosaic art in the Philadelphia area.
Build a wide and diverse community of mosaic makers and lovers of all ages and abilities. By building this community we will preserve the tradition and skills of mosaics, build respect for mosaic as an art form, and push the boundaries of innovation through contemporary mosaics.
A little about us…
The Mosaic Society of Philadelphia (MSoP) began as a conversation during the Society of American Mosaic Artists (SAMA) Conference in Austin, TX in 2011. A group of dedicated mosaicists and mosaic lovers dreamed of a forum for mosaic artists in the Philadelphia area. Their dream became a reality and we had our first meeting in June 2011.This small group evolved into the Board of Directors and soon after became a 501(c)(3) non-profit. The Society has since grown in membership, developed an active Facebook page for information sharing, hosted workshops with nationally renowned artists and was the host city for SAMA 2015 conference right here in Philadelphia! We have meetings every other month starting in September and during that time, have educational components, a mini-salon to share our artwork, an Artist Trading Card exchange and so much more. We are excited about the fantastic growth that has occurred so quickly and are pleased that so many friendships have been created within this wonderful creative community.
MSOP members range in experiential scope from novice crafter to internationally recognized artists and designers. The art of Mosaic is ever increasing in popularity and breadth of materials and processes incorporated into this ancient and lasting art form. Our members are an active and experimental group! Inclusiveness and a commitment to sharing through educational forums, hands on workshops and demonstrations is a core value of our organization.
